Step #15
Then while holding the corner, fold down the binding and pin, making sure the fold is even with the raw edge.
Put a pin on both sides as in step #16.

Step #16
|
|
Step #17
Work your way around pinning it until it look like this.
Your tail will be longer than needed, so now is the time to trim it.
Following the same angle, trim the tail to where it almost reaches the end of the potholder (about 1 inch from the end). Don't forget to press this end like you did before.

|
Step #17
Stitch 1/4 inch seam allowance (be precise, it does matter) all the way around the potholder. When you get to a corner, stop stitching 1/4 inch from raw edge.
When you stitch the folded over part, start at the end, not 1/4 away.
When you come to where you began at, place the binding like this. (see step #19) and stitch.

|
Step #19
It should look like this now.
trim the little notches off and even up the overlap on the raw edge.
|
|
Step #19
Turn the sewn binding to the other side covering the 1/4 seam. To miter the corner on this side, fold over one end and then the other and pin. Hand stitch (or machine stitch). It will lay flat once the pins are out.
You're done! It should look like this now.
