Cans to save for tin can person

For a smaller one:
2 coffee cans for head and body, unless you can find or have a rectangular can from olive oil or something for the body.

2 small rectangular cans for feet, the ones from the International coffees works well, or any other small flatter can...if you only have tuna cans, they will work too.

2 tall thin cans like from green giant asparagus for legs

1 short can like from eagle brand condensed milk for the neck.

For the arms, you could either use small skinny cans like from tomato paste or use old paintbrushes like I did.

You will also need something weatherproof to use as a hat. I used a funnel.

For a bigger tin can person, you will need....
A large can for the head, larger than the largest coffee can. The one I used was from cookies I got at Sam's Club.

A large rectangular can for body or even one of those big cans you get popcorn in at Christmas. For the neck I used a 40 oz can from Yams.

The arms, you can use the flexible stuff for downspouts, or you can use graduating sizes of cans. If using cans, you will need 6 cans total.

2 from the larger soups like Campbells Select, 2 from veggies like Delmonte, and 2 smaller cans like campbells condensed soup.

For the legs you will need 2 big coffee cans, 2 more 40 oz cans like from yams, 2 veggie cans like Delmonte

The feet I used the cans from General foods International coffee.

If you want to put hands on them, you can either cut hands out of sheet metal, or you can stiffen garden gloves with polyurethane that are stuffed with plastic bags.

To make a tin can girl like I did, you will have to get sheet metal and pleat it to make into a skirt.

:
You will also need machine screws and a drill to use.
Truly you can use whatever size or shape cans you think will look good for the size you want to make....so start stocking up on those cans now. If you think I missed anything, let me know.

I forgot to mention...for these I like to use Rustoleum, rusty metal primer and then use whatever color you want them to be over that. I like the shiny metallic paint myself.

Painting them you can either paint the cans first, or paint them once it is all assembled, whichever will be easier for you. I paint when it is assembled and then do the face or any other decoration I plan to do on them.
