###Denise,
I think you might be able to make a spider web by using some of the gold or silver colored crafting wires available at craft stores.
You would make the "spokes" of the web by laying wires across one another and securing them (temporarily)
in the middle with glue.
With a finer wire, make the circular part of the web.
Start in the center and wrap around the crossings of the spokes, to cover and secure, the glued area,
then work up around the spokes to form (weave) the web, securing each link at the spoke by wrapping the
finer wire around the spoke, before going to the next one.
(a small drop of glue might help secure the wrap at each spoke) When you get to the top, cut the fine wire and wrap
securely at one spoke. The ends of the spokes can be left as they are or use needle nosed pliers to curl them into
a loop so they won't be pointed and sharp.
Add a bead spider to the web.
You could also add beads to the fine wires as you weave the web, to embellish it.
I hope this is understandable, cuz I just typed it out from the top of my head (no wonder my typing is so bad!)

The story goes:
A long time ago in Germany a mother was busily cleaning for Christmas.
The spiders fled to the attic to escape the broom.
When the house became quietthe spiders slowly crept downstairs foor a peek.
Oh what a beautiful tree!
In their excitement they scurried up the trunk and out along each branch.
They were filled with happiness as they climbed amongst the glimmering beauty.
But, alas! By the time they were through climbing,
the tree was completely schrouded in their dusty gray spider web.
When Santa Claus came with the gifts for the children and saw the tree covered with spider webs,
he smiled when he saw how happy the spiders were,
but he knew how heartbroken the mother would be if she saw the tree covered with the dusty webs.
So he turned the webs to silver and gold.
The tree sparkled and shimmered and was even more beautiful than before.
That's why we have tinsel on our tree and every tree should have a Christmas Spider in it's branches.
