Paint a Colour Wheel

by luci

The colours on the Colour Wheel are pure, raw pigments and high Intensity.

Click on the Colour Wheel images below and paint yourself a colour wheel.

Then Print, Paint and store in sheet protectors in your painting binder.

The Primary colours
are known as the foundation colours or #1 Colours.
All colours are created from the Primary colours.

The Primary colours are:
Yellow, Red and Blue
The Primary colours can not be mixed from any other colours.

The Secondary colours or #2 Colours are:
Orange, Green and Violet

You mix 2 Primary colours to get Secondary colours.
Red + Yellow = orange
Blue + Yellow = green
Red + Blue = Violet

If your Violet (purple) is too brown, change the red to a cool red like: Magenta or Napthol Red.

Tertiary colours are also know as Intermediate or #3 Colours.
The Tertiary colours are:
Yellow-Orange, Yellow-Green, Blue-Green, Blue-Violet, Red-Violet
To get a Tertiary colour
you mix a Primary and an adjacent Secondary colour.

Yellow + Orange = Yellow-Orange
Yellow + Green = Yellow-Green
Blue + Green = Blue-Green
Blue + Violet = Blue-Violet
Red + Violet = Red-Violet

Paint and complete your colour wheel.
Mark the Primary colours as #1
Secondary colours as #2
Tertiary colours as #3

Paint in your complementary colours.
The complementary colours are right across from each other on the colour wheel.
Notice the complement of a warm colour is a cool colour.

The complementary colours of:

Yellow = Violet
Red = Green
Orange = Blue
Yellow-Orange = Blue-Violet
Red-Orange = Blue-Green
Yellow-Green = Red-Violet

There you have it, a rainbow of colours for you to paint with.
