Easy Gathering Directions by Machine...

Mom/Dot ~ if you want an easier way to gather skirts and things try this...
Set your stitch length to the longest setting ~ like you would for machine basting.
Set your top tension "tight" ~ sometimes it is enough by itself, other times it's too tight.
Then again, every once in awhile, I hit it just right! It depends on the weight of the fabric you're working with.

It works because this method draws the top thread taught and leaves the bottom thread loose.
The loose bottom loops will slide along the tight top thread, which is easier to gather.

***Hint*** Use button hole twist for the top thread and it won't break as easily...
