Alice,
You can add vit. E oil (a couple capsules), or grapefruit seed extract,
tincture of benzoin, wheatgerm oil(although the fragrance of it sometimes
overpowers the lotion, or if there's any alcohol in your lotion this will
preserve it.
Most are available from soap supply places, or at a reputable
health food store.

I use grapefruit seed extract in my flax seed hair gel.
It inhibited the mold I used to get every summer.
One of the knowledgeable gals in my local health food store reported that
Aubrey cosmentics uses grapefruit seed extract in all their products.

A small (1/2 or 1 oz. bottle) costs about $10.
But you only use 1 or 2 drops so it lasts a long time.
