baby keepsakes

Here's my 2 cents... Do something with those 1st teeth, like put in oil in bottle, or SOMETHING! I saved all my girls baby teeth. Went to make something with the teeth for them and they all broke in half because they had dried out so much [16 years + in the jewelry box does that!] So, they need some special consideration - maybe letting them dry a BIT, then dipping in a polymer??!?

I think if I had it to do over again, I would make annual stepping stones with a hand and foot print in each, and the year. You can make a "memory walk" with the stones... [Would love to see the one the lady who shared this idea has!]

As for the shoes, here in the states there are companies that specialize in the technique. Rather pricey, but nice... New parents usually get a ton of mailings, and one for the shoes is usually included...

All the other stuff you mentioned is nice to save ~ as long as you keep the book up to date. Never accomplished this one! Gave the book and stuff to the kids to do when they were old enough...

Pictures: Don't forget to take snaps of the firsts ~ the first owie or bump on the head; the first mud puddle; the first ucky experience, if possible. These are priceless. Anyone can have "perfect" pictures taken, but these are the ones remembered...
Have fun and enjoy! :-))

those popcorn tins make wonderful time capsules for baby/childhood keepsakes...

Start with a clean container...paint or cover the outside and decorate..then start adding the things that might not fit in a book, make sure each thing has a tag on it tied with ribbon that says what it is, and why it is so special...
v My kids love going thru their capsules from time to time as we talk about each item in them...

They are old enough now to ask if something can be put in , like ribbons for awards at school..
I would start with the hospital baby braclet, lock of baby hair, or hair from first haircut, there is a product you can get
that allows you you make a mold of an infants fist, hand or foot..you mix it with warm water in a baggie.
put the baby's hand or foot in it and hold if for a minute or two, it hardens into a flexible plastic rather quickly...
you remove the hand or foot, then fill the mold with plaster...
they are beautiful and really capture the little details of their teensy hands or feet.

You can do it while they are sleeping..they don't even notice!..i would add one of these .Add a hospital picture-the first one
they take, Perhaps a list of the other baby's that were born in that hospital on the same day.
The birth certificate with baby's footprint, a sonogram picture!,a newspaper for the date they were born (not the one that has the announcement in it, but the actual paper for that day--in years to come the ads and house prices, etc will be very interesting to them), a weekly life or people magazine for the week or month they were born.,tape of their heartbeat, ist rattle or toy...
annnnny toy or blanket they are horribly attached to (once you get it away from them--hint if they are getting older and love the capsule they are usually more than willing to put their keepsake in!).
1st tooth that falls out, tape of them as they make sounds, laugh, begin singing , any recitals,..if you have a VCR, use one tape..and each year on their birthday tape only one short segment of them blowing out their birthday cake candles..
