Covered shoe boxes

These are the boxes I covered using brown paper bags.
Paper bags are great to use to cover shoe boxes to store your craft supplies in.
I crumple up the bag after cutting the seams so it lays flat.
Then I decoupage it onto the box, not trying to get it smooth.
When that is dry, rub lightly with shoe polish or dry brush a brown paint on it...when that is dry, give it several coats of clear polyurethane. It gives the effect of a leather on the box. Then I just attach a label to say what is in the box. I think I like the darker one the best. I have a bunch of boxes I still want to cover.

Use for brown paper bags

I had this cigar box thing that I have had for a few years and decided to cover it to make a scrap paper holder.

I reuse the back side of computer paper that I no longer need, envelopes and such for scrap. Just cut it to fit in the box.

I took brown paper bags and ripped them in small pieces. With white Elmers glue, I glued on the small pieces of bag, overlapping as I went. When the entire thing was covered, including under the lid and overlapping on all the edges, I added some scrap braid that I had laying around, using goop to attach the braid.

Besides being decorative, the braid helps to strengthen the hinge on the lid. After everything was finished and dry, I lined the inside with felt, and then applied several coats of polyurethane to the outside. You could also use scrap fabric, wallpaper or even scrap pieces of ribbon to do this in the same way.
