Kathy,
I just wash them with salt and cold water, then soak in cold water and baking soda, it seems to work for me with jars from Michael's hot peppers. Hope you find something that works.

Another idea I heard a long time ago to remove the odor from any container is to wash and dry it, and then when it's thoroughly dry put crumpled up newspaper in it. The inks supposedly contain some chemical that will remove the odors. Hope this helps.

Kathy,
I wonder if you sprayed the inside of the lid with Fabreeze it would work. I used it on some antique quilts and it took that musty odor out; which is extremely hard to get rid of.

I've heard of this one also, but never tried it. Have put a sheet or 2 of paper towels inside jars that were not going to be used for awhile so no order will occur. That seems to work. I also make a paste with white vinegar and baking soda and let it set in the lids for a while then wash as usual. A few times I had to repeat the process, but it always worked for me. Wish you luck with this.
