Drying Gourds
Well, it's finally arrived. The drying gourd time.
So far, I've only seen 4 that weren't mature enuff when our first freeze killed the vines, so they are shrivelling.
(But I can still do something with them.) I've been told by experts, Never throw a gourd away, NEVER.
Thanksgiving, my darling grandlove and I counted them and there are 125 gourds.
This first photo is a part of the dipper gourds. Some long neck, some medium necks.
On the back side of the fence, I allowed some to go out onto the ground, so the necks would curl up in interesting ways.
The picture below is the birdhouse gourds on a section of the backside of the fence.
There is almost that many on a section on the front side of the fence. They seemed to produce a lot more gourds!
I pulled this little birdhouse gourd off the fence this afternoon (it looked like the smallest one there) and brought it into the house.
Tomorrow I intend to scrub the outside skin off and get it down to the "wood."
