My daughter-in-law has a lot of sea shells and is looking for ideas on how to use them in a craft project. We would appreciate any ideas.
Thank You Roxanne

Roxanne,
Besides all the wonderful ideas here, you can take some of those small boxes...like from checks, or small candy boxes paint them whatever color you want and then glue small shells on the box top and you have a cute trinket box. You could drill a small hole in each shell, and make shell windchimes using fishing line and even add beads.

Or you can dress up and old frame...glue moss to the frame and then add shells around. My son did this one year and then put a fishing picture of himself in the frame and gave it to his Grandma for Christmas. They look pretty around a mirror frame too. Glue moss, small river rocks and shells around. I use Goop to glue shells to these things, it seems to hold the best. I have found that hot glue, tacky glue and white glue don't adhere to the shells too well and you don't want your projects falling apart.

You can make a toilet paper holder using a large coffee can, put liquid nails on the outside of the can so entire surface is covered, then roll in small pebbles, and make sure they are pushed in good and completely cover can, (it is okay if you can see some of the liquid nails, but make sure you leave a space on top so the lid will fit back on. When that is dry, Embellish with sea shells using Goop to hold them on. I like to spray a couple coats of clear gloss finish on them so the pebbles and shells will shine as if wet. The plastic lid, use goop and cover with moss and add shells to the top.

You could also decorate the outside of a plain flower pot using the shells, moss, stones. Or take one of those popcorn cans...paint a seaside picture around can and then add your own shells to the picture and use for a waste basket. Hope these ideas help your daughter-in-law. If I think of anything else, I will let you know. Margie

Put sea shells in a glass bowl, low fat jar, etc., insert wick in the center (hang from a pencil laid across the top, and slowly pour wax over all making a sea shell candle. You'll want to use a pale color wax in order to see the shells.

Roxanne,
I make angels out of seashells. You can make a star out of the round, long skinny ones. They can be used to make soapdishes. I saw a stick pin holder made from the small conch shells. Cut a small circle of fabric. Sew around the edge like you are making a fabric yoyo. Put a ball of stuffing in it and gather to the back. Glue in shell. I posted a picture of the angel I made. I think on the Bible BB.
