Use any size hook to obtain the gauge given.
Afghan measures approximately 43" X 60"

now work 3 dc in each sp (formed by a dc or turning ch) across long side edge to within last sp on edge; work 3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc in last sp, ch 1 skip next shell *;
work 3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc in next ch-3 sp between shells for point at opposite end of strip, ch 1, skip next shell; work 3 dc, ch 2 and 3 dc in next sp;
rep from * to * once MORE. Sl st to top of beg ch-3 to join. Fasten off.
