Halloween Spider
My children (teenagers) and I put up a giant spider web on the outside
of our garage. We use bright orange surveyors tape (a plastic ribbon,
actually) that can be found at hardware stores. It also comes in other
colors, so we also do a giant green Christmas tree.
Start at an upper corner of the garage and drape about ten streamers to
the ground, fanning out and down. At the top, weave other streamers in
and out of the vertical pieces, across. (I hope this makes sense). We
anchor the vertical strips to the ground with stakes, and tie the
horizontal strips to the edges.
We then made a spider using a huge embroidery hoop covered with black
plastic garbage bags for the body and a slightly smaller one for the
head. Sticks painted black were attached with black electrical tape.
We outlined the spider with orange lights so that it glowed at night.
We might outline the spider web with white lights this year, so during
the day it shows up orange with a black spider, and at night it's a
white web with an orange spider.
We put this up on October 1st, and it stays up until November 1st.
