Coloring Pasta Necklace

I have never colored sand, but have colored macaroni by mixing the food
coloring, or cake decorating paste colors with rubbing alcohol.
YES!! you red that correctly, it won't interact with the macaroni,
soften it, etc. Swirl the pasta thru the colored alcohol, and lift out,
drain, spread on wax paper covered newspaper, let dry. If you start off
with light colors, you can mix colors in with your light colors to
get darker colors. We used this with 3 and 4 year olds, the alcohol
evaporates. If you are stringing pasta, we mixed colored pieces of
paper cut in 1 inch squares with a whole punched, it added another
