one easy way to paint is to use freezer paper as a stencil.
Find a pattern you like and cut it out of freezer paper.
Place the wax side down and iron to the shirt.
The paper will stick well enough to paint gently with a brush or cosmetic sponge.
You can cut out letters for names, pictures from coloring books, all kinds of things.
