-Do you have a theme for the party?
-If you don't mind a bit of a mess, T-shirt parties are usually a hit for both boys and girls....many use new T-shirts, but we have also had "recycle" parties...the kids all bring an old shirt ( maybe even an older siblings or parents) that due to stains or whatever was slated for the rag bag and the challenge is for them to use the fabric paints to cover the stains to create a "new" and now wearble item again.

-Another idea (but you would need to get permission first from the other parents to use the adresses) s a "Balloon Pen Pal" party. I bought ( about $20) kit at BJ Warehouse with Balloons and a tank to fill them. The kids used a small square of paper to put a short note asking whomever found this to write to the address if they would like a "Pen Pal" and had the address on the back.
Then we rolled the paper like a scroll and tied it to the balloons with ribbon, and let them go.
(we did get a few responses, some from several states away) -Hope these help...Happy Birthday to your daughter *S*

Subject: Re: Bug themed birthday party...need ideas

Here are a few ideas...hope there is something you can use.
Food...
Worm Motels....these very easy to make...

small clear plastic cups with finely crumbled OREOs ( or other chocolate cookies with white filling) make the "dirt"...as you fill the cups, place a few gummy worms so they are visable through the cup, near the top, partially bury a few worms so they hang over the lip of the cup...a toothpick with a small "Worm Motel" in the center and your done.

Decorations....
If you have an old COOTIES childs game handy....they make cute name card holders and if your doing party favor bags, the bug can guard the bag.

If you don't mind the time or effort...the kids can make their own goodie bags too....lunch sized brown paper bags are great for these... stamping...stickers ( and bug ones shouldn't be to hard to find ) crayons... pipe cleaners (for antennias)and water based markers along with the kids imaginations should produce some very wonderful creations.

Games....
Bug Bingo could work for the age group you mentioned...some cardboard to make the bingo cards with the "numbers" being bug pictures ( photocopy pictures cut from magazines to make them and to make the set to "call" the bugs) and if you have an old ANTS IN THE PANTS game handy...the ants could be the bingo chips.

Good Luck...and Happy Birthday to your daughter *S*

I was at a party once where the cake was decorated to look like a big flower, then several cupcakes were decorated to look like ladybugs or bees, etc. and set around the flower cake... really cute!
Also, it's a great way to "stretch" your amount of cake if you are afraid it won't be big enough for the number of guests you are having...

Also, I think some kind of antennas for the kids would be a lot of fun! Since you will be outside and don't have to worry about the mess you could let them put together their own, maybe by poking chenille stems into styrofoam balls (these could be covered with glue and sprinkled with glitter) and twisting the other end around inexpensive plastic headbands...

Good luck!

Subject: Re: need craft for 4 yr old tea/dressup party

I just had a tea party themed birthday party for my 4 year old.
We made friendship pins to put on the girls' sneakers and to trade with their best friends.
The cost is minimal.
All you need are tiny beads in various colors and safety pins.
I had the girls pick what colors they wanted to go on the pins.
My girlfriend and I actually put the beads on the pins.
If you have older girls they could do their own and also help the younger ones.
