Crafts for Children
Bubbles ........Yield 2 cups
1 cup green dishwashing detergent
1/2 cup glycerine, available at drug stores
1/2 cup water
1. In a metal can or a plastic container, combine the detergent,
glycerine, and water. Mix thoroughly.
2. Dip a wand into the container, making sure a film of bubble liquid is
stretched across it. Blow gently for super long-lasting bubbles.

STAINED GLASS FOR CHILDREN
Take all of those itty bitty crayon bits that you don't know what to do
with and have the kids peel ALL of the paper off of them.
Next use a cheese grater on the smallest holes. I bought a small hand held
one with a handle. grate the crayons on this into a bowl. PLEASE be
careful of crayon shavings winding up on the floor, especially carpet !!
Use a piece of wax paper and put down in front of child, next have them
sprinle lots of crayon shavings. Mix the colors it looks more interesting.
Cover with another sheet of wax paper.
MOM'S JOB ------ Use an iron on low setting with a hanky on top to heat the
projeçt just until the crayon melts.
Have child either draw a pattern or just cut freehand the project and punch
a hole at the top with a hole puncher and put string through it to hang at
a window !!!
To clean grater just run under hot water and when all the crayon is gone
then use a sponge and soap, not before.
PAPER DRESSES
Here is an idea for paper dresses that I thought would be a great project
to do at a slumber party!
First, make a basic shift-style dress pattern. Spread open a full
newspaper sheet and refold it in half horizontally. Turn the sheet so the
fold is on the right, then cut a U-shaped armhole in the upper left corner.
Spread the sheet open again and cut out a U or V shpaed neckline in the
center of the top edge. This will form shoulder straps between the
armholes. Hold up the pattern in front of your child and trim the paper
where necessary for a better fit.
Next, trace around the pattern onto two pieces of heavyweight butcher
paper. Extend the length to suit your child's height. Cut out both pieces
and tape together the shoulder and side seams. Decorated the dress with
sponge paitned designs, colored tape stripes and craft paper buttons or
even rubber stamps or crayons.
Here is an Interesting way of Drawing a Picture or even Writing.
Use a heavy piece of paper such as construction paper {if you use too thin
of a piece it will rip} and color a portion of the paper by pressing down
firmly with a crayon. You should use a generous amount of crayon. Keep
doing this with different colors. until the page is filled with wonderful
vibrant colors !
Next paint the entire surface of the colored side with black tempra paint
and let it dry. After the paint has dried use an orange stick , toothpick,
or any object suitable for scraping and either draw a picture or write words
by scratching the paint off. This makes for an interesting effect.
I recently saw something very similar at an art store selling for $9.95
for 8 pieces of stationary and envelopes. My son used a dinosaur stencil
and scraped out the shape of a dinosaur for a school project {he's 5}
and had a great time doing it plus it was inexpensive and everyone else
loved it too!
